Avoiding punishment is a non violent crime that happens when:

  • You attempt to bribe a guard but it fails
  • You attempt to convince a guard but it fails
  • Anytime you select the "Resist arrest" option in dialogue. This happens even when you talk to a guard in combat just to insult them.

Behavior

  • Avoiding punishment has a big effect on other crimes
    • If you gain infamy for this crime twice or more, you can no longer try to convince guards
    • If you gain infamy for this crime thrice or more, you can no longer try to bribe them either

This is true even when Avoiding punishment is your worst crime so you might not be able to convince/bribe your way out of it.

Arrest

After getting infamy for this crime, guards will attack you. However if you run away, return guards get close enough to you, they will try to arrest you with these options:

Bribes cost (up to 10000 infamy points), multiplied by gold inflation. Fine costs twice more.

Selecting the pay a fine option if this is your worst crime committed has the following effects outside of other fine based punishments

  • Losing reputation equal to , up to 100 reputation points lost
  • NPCs lose opinion on you, up to 200, spread equally among every NPC in the settlement
