Every item in the game has a rarity. In general, it shows how rare this item is in the game with the exception of crafted equipment where it's based on the combination of it's power and the difficulty of crafting it.

Rarity effects

In general, the higher the item's rarity, the higher is it's price and outside of being harder to obtain, higher rarity items are also stronger.

Outside of a few exceptions (like quest items or ultra rare items), rarity plays a big role in equipment strength..

  1. Rarity multiplies all combat stats in the game, including weapon damage and armor on this item.
  2. With each higher rarity tier, this item also gains a new secondary stat.
  3. Rarity has a big effect on the item's gold value.
Rarity multipliers
Rarity All Stats multiplier Amount of secondary stats Item value multiplier
Common 1 0 10
Uncommon 1.05 1 20
Rare 1.1 2 40
Epic 1.2 3 80
Legendary 1.35 4 160
Celestial 1.5 5 320

You can obtain equipment of only a few rarities from each source.

Rarity types

There are 6 different rarities in the game:

Common

As the name suggests, this is the rarity you will see the most. It's especially common among crafted consumables. As common equipment has no secondary stats, there's no reason outside of item level to wear these items if you have something of a better rarity avaiable. All basic crafting materials are also of a common rarity.

Uncommon

Uncommon items are very similar to common items as every common item source can also give you uncommon items but with a lower drop chance. It's also the highest possible rarity for many types of potions.

Rare

This is the highest rarity that can drop out of regular enemies in the open world (outside of ultra rare items), yet it's still relatively common rarity in dungeons. It is also the highest possible rarity for almost all of the non-equipment items.

Epic

Almost all epic items are equipment with a few exceptions. Full set of epic rarity equipment is the strongest one obtainable without requiring a lot of luck or effort but it cannot be obtained from enemies in the open world.

Legendary

Legendary rarity is (outside of a few exceptions) the highest rarity that can be obtained as a loot and it's exclusive to equipment (only as a lucky loot from bosses and dungeon chests) and ultrarare items such as inventory expander.

Celestial

This is the hardest rarity to find, exclusive to equipment. It's obtainable only through crafting after obtaining crafting materials from all around Torisia. There are also a few ultra rare items of Celestial rarity but with extremely low drop rate.
