Equipment
Weapon
This is your main source of damage. It's also the most important piece of equipment due to the high amount of stats.
Off hand
Off hand is the only type of equipment with 2 different sets of main stats - You can either get off hands with attack or off hands with armor as their main stat - both granting substantial amount to help you specialize further in offensive or defensive builds.
Helm, Chest, Legs, Shoes, Cloak, Gloves
These pieces are all very similar - they give you some damage reduction from armor and a good amount of stats.
Ring
You can wear 2 rings. They grant the 2nd highest amount of secondary stats but the lowest amount of main stats.
Enchanted book
Enchanted books are a special type of equipment because they don't give you any stats. Their purpose is to enhance a spell by changing its behavior and turning it in an almost different spell.
Amulet
Amulets give you a special non-combat effect.

Equipment sets

Equipment sets do not grant any bonuses for wearing a full set. However, all pieces fit together visually and they often all come from the same source or grant the same stats speciality (E.g. all pieces have nature resistance). To be considered a set, it must consist of at least 3 themathically fitting pieces.
Equipping items
You can equip an item by either dragging it to your character window or by right clicking the item and choosing "Equip".
If you're already wearing an item, you can quickly compare it with another item of the same type by hovering over it with your cursor.
Stats that are simply changing their value have either a green or red value next to them, showing how much do you gain/lose by equipping this item. If it gains/loses an entire stat, it's written under other stats in green / red color.

Stats spread
The stats your equipment provides are distributed unevenly across different pieces. This is relevant only for item generation, it doesn't affect items already in your inventory.
Note: Since off hand can give armor or attack, the spread of armor/attack of other pieces are calculated without it.

Example:
If you obtain a ring, it has a 5% main stats spread. This means, that if you got a weapon instead, it would have 4 times more main stats but almost equal secondary stats.
