Fishing can be done at any body of water in Torisia. To do so, you have to drag the Fishing (ability) icon from the skills window to your ability bar. After using its keybind, you will attempt to start fishing at your mouse cursor's location. You can fish at a certain spot only if:

Fishing locations

The types of fish you catch are based on:

Every combination lets you catch different fish. E.g. you can catch different fish in shallow water in verdant biomes during a night compared to the same location but during the day.

Every condition combination has the same chance of what you can catch.

Catching fish

Your weapon can summon a magical string and thus be used for fishing without the need of any fishing items. However, using them makes fishing easier and faster.

Fishing with staff

After you successfully start catching a fish, 3 bars will appear.

Fishing UI

Catch bar

The catch bar's fill goes upwards as the fish is trying to escape and downwards if you're reeling it in. If it gets either completely full or completely empty, the fish escapes.

Catch zone

Catch zone with perfect catch zone inside

You should always aim to stay in the catch zone, and in the perfect catch zone whenever possible.

Perfect catch zone

The perfect catch zone is always directly in the middle of catch zone but of 40% size. You should aim for it whenever you can.

Time bar

The time bar starts filling the moment you get into reeling phase. Once it fills up completely, you successfully catch the fish.

Wait phase

During the wait phase, you can only wait until some fish bites. Trying to reel in (by holding left mouse or holding the interaction button) during this phase instantly fails this fishing attempt.

Catch phase

After a few seconds (depends on fish behavior) in wait phase, some fish will bite. Once this happens, the catch bar will quickly begin filling up. You have to click the left mouse button or the interaction button at the proper time.

Reeling phase

While in reeling phase, the fish will try to escape by filling up the catch bar. If you hold left mouse button or the interaction button in this phase, you reel the fish in to push the catch bar back. Ideally, you want to balance between reeling in and releasing to keep the catch bar inside of the perfect catch zone.

Grace period

You gain grace period every time you reach reeling phase. This period represents how much time you can spend outside of the catch bar without any penalties over the entire duration of reeling phase. It varies based on fish behavior (0.3 seconds by default).

Your success chance differs based on the time spent in various catch zones.

  • If outside of the catch zone, the fish's chance to escape begins increasing quickly based on the distance from the center of perfect catch zone. You gain 0.5% escape chance for every 0.1 seconds and 10% of full bar distance from the perfect catch zone center.
Chance to escape gained
Chance to escape Distance from catch bar center Duration
+ 5% 10% of the catch bar length 1 second
+ 5% 50% of the catch bar length 0.2 seconds
+ 5% 2% of the catch bar length 5 seconds
+25% 50% of the catch bar length 1 second
+50% 50% of the catch bar length 2 seconds
+12.5% 25% of the catch bar length 1 second
  • If in catch zone, you're neither gaining nor losing anything.
  • For every second in perfect catch zone, the escape chance is reduced by where escape multiplier is determined by fish behavior (1 by default = 3.33% loss per second).

If the time bar finishes, you successfully catch the fish. If you got a perfect catch during the catch phase, you gain a 30% chance to obtain double the fish. You also increase your doubling chances by 1% for every 1% of reeling phase time spent inside of the perfect catch zone.

Fish escaping

The fish can escape in many ways:

In addition to this, the fish will also periodically try to escape while in reeling phase every 2 seconds (by default). However, this can vary based on the fish behavior. Every time the fish tries to escape, it uses its chance to escape visible in the fishing interface. If it succeeds, your fishing attempt fails.
